Fury of stay-at-home mums: Thousands protest at plans to strip many middle class families of child benefit

Middle class stay-at-home mothers rose up last night against plans to strip them of child benefit.
Thousands protested online after Chancellor George Osborne announced the withdrawal of the universal payment for all higher-rate taxpayers from 2013.
Many said they would be unable to cope. Others said they would be better off divorced.

But the main complaint was that the cuts will hit families with only one breadwinner harder than households where both parents work.
Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith reacted coolly to Mr Osborne's announcement, which will save £1billion a year, admitting: 'I don't love the idea
