Market overview: FTSE 100 up 15
LONDON (ShareCast) - 1020: Contract caterer Compass (LSE: CPG.L - news) is heading higher after a "slight" increase in like-for-like revenue in the first half of 2010. Satellite communications giant Inmarsat (EUREX: ISAF.EX - news) is also wanted after buying Norwegian maritime broadband supplier Ship Equip for $159m. Interdealer broker ICAP (LSE: IAP.L - news) is heading lower despite enjoying a "solid" fourth quarter. FTSE 100 (Euronext: VFTSE.NX - news) up 15 at 5,964.
0820: Company updates have been given the thumbs up this morning, helping the top share index move closer to the 6,000 point mark. TUI Travel (Other OTC: TTVLF.PK - news) leads the way in the FTSE 100 after saying underlying trading has been "satisfactory" during the last six months and, like Thomas Cook on Tuesday, not changing its estimate of the cost of trouble in North Africa. In the FTSE 250 (FTSE: ^FTMC - news) , London Stock Exchange (LSE: LSE.L - news) is wanted after saying grew average daily value traded in UK equities by 2% over the past year and is finishing the period on a strong note. There is more bad news from the retail sector though. Babycare products group Mothercare (LSE: MTC.L - news) falls after saying margins were squeezed by clearances of Christmas stock.
